Our Grass-Fed Milk
At Benson Shady Valley Farm, we're dedicated to providing you with the highest quality grass-fed milk. Learn more about what makes our milk special, how it's produced, and why you should choose it for your family.

Our grass-fed milk stands apart due to the natural diet of our cows. We believe that grass-fed milk offers a sweet light taste. It also stays fresh for as long as pasteurized milk, if not longer., because of the forage we feed.
We do feed corn to our cows. The process we use is called snaplage, which uses the whole cob and most of the stalk. This helps our crop rotation and provides our cows with the nutrition our cows need for our cold Upper Peninsula winters. As we do not feed the snaplage when the cows are on pasture from May-November.
The Sweetness of Grass

From Pasture to Bottle
Our process ensures the highest quality milk, starting with cleanliness in every area. Our barn was built in 1952 and was built as a tie stall barn. The cows are usually only in the barn in the winter to ensure they stay warm. We vigorously clean our pipeline and milkers every milking with specialized cleaners. Our cows enjoy dry bedding in their stalls and lush pasture, with the option of clean stalls in the barn in the spring, summer, and fall, making udder cleaning easier and enjoyable for them. After milking, we apply a post dip to keep teats clean. Immediately after milking, we filter and jar our milk, rapidly chilling it in an ice water bath. Once the milk reaches 40-38 degrees, we move it to our pick-up fridge for members.

The Benefits of Grass-Fed Milk
The health benefits of raw milk are numerous. The biggest one is for those with Lactose intolerance. Most people find that because raw milk is unprocessed their body digests it easily and does not upset their body. In addition to that, Raw milk has more fat, more vitamins, minerals, and good bacteria that helps your body stay healthy.
